Recent examples of
projects completed:
Assessment, remediation
and permitting support for the
reuse of an industrial property in Salem, MA for a 120 unit residential
apartment complex. Five Underground Storage Tanks (USTs) were removed
from a six acre industrial site that supported a fleet of delivery trucks.
Two of the USTs leaked, requiring soil removal oversight and the implementation
of a groundwater pump and treat system. The vehicle maintenance area required
both soil removal and groundwater treatment. Additionally, two limited
removal actions were required for minor releases. Altogether, nearly 1500
tons of soil were recycled and three Class A-2 Response Action Outcomes
(RAOs) were achieved under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 21E and the
Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP), 310 CMR 40.0000.
Assessment, permitting,
design and construction management of the municipal landfill closure
for the Town of Aquinnah, MA on the island of Martha's Vineyard. The project
was completed in time and under budget with an aggressive schedule imposed
by the Town and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection
(DEP). The project was completed in close cooperation with the Lawrence
Lynch Corporation of Falmouth, MA.
Assessment
and risk
characterization of a former gasoline station in Peabody, MA. The site
was closed with a Class A-2 RAO despite elevated levels of petroleum constituents
in the groundwater. A modified Method 2 risk assessment under the MCP comprehensively
identified all risks in the surrounding area to establish specific pathways
and receptors that may be impacted. The site has been brought back to beneficial
use without the need for an Activity and Use Limitation (AUL).
Permitting and
design assistance of a new shellfish hatchery for the Wampanoag Tribe
of Gay Head (Aquinnah) in Aquinnah, MA. The project proposes to raise
scallop, quahaug and oyster seed for stocking coastal ponds on the Vineyard
and the surrounding region. The permitting involves coordination of approvals
through the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) Unit, Massachusetts
Coastal Zone Management (CZM), MA DEP, Massachusetts Division of Marine
Fisheries (DMF), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA).
Engineering
and permitting support for an 18 hole municipal golf course for
the City of Peabody, MA: We have recently completed work to support the
opening of a new municipal golf course located within 400 acres of open
space in the cities of Peabody and Salem. The project was led by the golf
course architects Cornish, Silva & Mungeam of Uxbridge, MA with technical
support being provided by Decoulos & Company, Sasaki Associates of Watertown,
MA and GeoHydroCycle of Newton, MA. The City of Peabody received a $500,000
grant from the MA Division of Conservation Services and is reusing industrial
land owned by the Eastman Gelatine Corporation (a division of the Eastman
Kodak Company). The project sought to preserve as much undisturbed land
as possible, protect abutting public surface drinking water supplies and
reuse brownfield land as part of a comprehensive passive recreational use
for the area. See final use at: http://www.peabodymeadowgolf.com/index.html
Project
Review for the Conservation Commission in the Town of Saugus, MA: Reviewed
the stormwater collection system design and hydraulic discharge from
a proposed 39-lot subdivision. Coordinated neighborhood concerns
of project impact with the Conservation Commission to control down-gradient
project impacts.
Assessment and
closure analysis of a former landfill in Arlington, Massachusetts.
Coordinated geophysical investigations, subsurface investigations, mapping
and closure study report for the law firm McGregor & Shea of Boston,
Massachusetts.
Subdivision
design and permitting for a five lot project in Marblehead, MA. The
project required sensitive layout design and wetlands permitting in a
well established neighborhood abutting conservation lands. Coordinated
review through the engineering department, planning board and conservation
commission.
Removal management
of six USTs from a former estate in Canton, Massachusetts. Final report
detailing activities prepared for the Massachusetts Audubon Society. The
site was fully restored and a Response Action Outcome Statement was issued
to the DEP.
Petroleum
remediation of soil and groundwater at a residence abutting Radcliffe
College in Cambridge, MA: 65 cubic yards of contaminated soil were recycled
and a pump-and-treat groundwater-remediation system was implemented. The
site was fully restored and a Response Action Outcome Statement was issued
within six months of notification to the DEP.
Full
permitting, design and construction oversight of the main roadway into
Wampanoag tribal lands. The 2,500 foot roadway required the filling and
replication of 8,500 square feet of wetlands which was coordinated through
local, state and federal agencies. Construction was supervised in coordination
with the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs. The
project was funded and reviewed through the Federal Highway Administration.
